Lot Essay

Wakley worked in both oil and watercolours. He was influenced heavily by the Pre-Raphaelite aesthetic of Burne-Jones and De Morgan. He showed a great deal of potential but was found brutally murdered in his water closet, probably by a soldier he had met.
