Further details
The illustrative style depicted in the treatment of the flowers is similar to the patterns found on 17th century Delft and German faience ware, the pattern being referred to as Muffelmalerie. For a dish with similar painted flowers cf. the British Museum London, (Inv. No. 91 - 24, 4).
An additional possible influence to the illustrative style of floral detail adopted at this time might be attributed to the botonist and illustrator Sybilla Maria Merian. Born in Frankfurt Germany in 1647, she specialised in researching and illustrating flora and fauna and travelled extensively publishing her findings. She was one of the first to understand metamorphosis.
C.f. B. Chadour, op. cit. vol. I, no. 742 for a ring of similar date and treatment, but of figural subject matter, and stated as being of Austrian origin.
