Lot Essay

Towards the latter part of the 19th century Austrian clock movements became more standardized and simple, with less attention being paid to quality and more attenion to larger production runs and profitability. This particular clock (and the following lot) is a notable exception. The movement is a very considerable step up in quality from the mainstream Austrian regulators of the period but quite why the maker wanted mean time to be indicated twice on the dial is a fascinating mystery.
