Lot Essay

In 1947 John Piper bought a cottage at Nant Ffrancon, Wales. Here he began a series of works exploring the geology and monumentality of the impressive landscapes of Snowdonia. A similar view, 'Tryfan from Llyn Bochlwyd' was sold in these rooms on 21 November 1995, lot 53.
