Lot Essay

In the 1982 Tate Britain exhibition catalogue of John Piper, David Fraser Jenkins wrote of the Brittany collages of the early 1960's 'the drawing and colour lie in the angular and circular shapes of the cut papers, which are more rhythmical than in the pre-war collages, but are similarly on the surface.' (John Piper, London, p. 126).
