Lot Essay

When describing the present work John Russell Taylor (Bill Jacklin, London, 1997,op. cit. p. 67) states 'The pictures of The Artist's Model are lit by a warm interior glow, but outside the window there is a melancholy dusk, and the play of shadows across the blank canvas or paper is a little unnerving. Even the plant on the shelf above her head seems to be squirming and slithering out of control.'
