An Allegory of the Four Continents: Europe; America; Africa and Asia

The present pictures are based on paintings by Francesco Solimena that are in the collection of the Galleria Doria Pamphili in Rome. The original paintings served as preparatory sketches for decoration in the Palazzo Reale in Naples, now lost, which were commissioned to celebrate the wedding of King Carlo to Maria Amalia of Saxony in 1738.
