Lot Essay

Related to a painting of the same composition in the Galeria Palatina in Florence, signed and dated 'Franc° Corradi. P.F. 1622' (B. Santi, Il Seicento Fiorentino, Pittura, exhib. cat., Florence, Palazzo Strozzi, 1987, no. 1.57). The painting was commissioned by Cardinal Carlo de'Medici along with Erminia among the Shepherds (in Petraia, near Florence) for the Casino di S. Marco.
This miniature must have been painted after 1633, when Pope Urban VIII made Curradi Cavaliere dell'Ordine di Cristo.
