Early news of life in Berlin. He sends news of the Ehrenfests (he has started using the familiar 'du' with Paul Ehrenfest), Fritz Haber and his family, and other friends. With enquiries about the weather and their son Eduard's health, he writes of frustrations in financial matters ('In Gottes Namen!'), including a old tax bill for 80 kroners from his time in Prague, and of the process of settling into his new flat in Berlin.

Einstein's new life in Berlin, among so many congenial scientific luminaries, was to spell the end of his marriage with Mileva - his first request for a divorce was to come on 6 February 1916.
