4° (228 x 174mm). Numerous deckle edges. (Browned.) 19th-century dark blue quarter roan, spine lettered in gilt (very slightly worn at extremities). Sir William Coventry and his brother Henry were both active and successful politicians during the reign of Charles II. William features prominently in Samuel Pepys' Diaries and became navy commissioner in 1662. Henry held many foreign posts before returning to England to become Secretary of State. The auction was held at the home of Henry Coventry on Haymarket, Piccadilly. It included a Shakespeare First Folio, a 12-volume Blaeu Atlas (1655) 'illuminé & doré', the Hyde catalogue of the Bodleian Library and many books on international law, diplomacy, history and continental and English literature.
