Lot Essay

Thomas Wise (d.1819), of Hillbank, who was the son of David Wise of Lunan, Forfarshire, was a physician. He is recorded as having lived for a time in Jamaica, where he acquired the estate of Claremont, in the parish of Hanover. He purchased Hillbank, near Dundee, on his return from Jamaica. He married Anne, daughter of William Chalmers of Glenericht, Perthshire in 1795 with whom he had several children, one of whom, Thomas, was a physician in the service of the East India Comapany, and another son, Patrick, became a magistrate in Bengal.
