LA RIOJA ALTA

The Bodegas was founded by Don Daniel-Alfedo Ardanza y Sanchez in 1890 when he convinced a number of his country men to sign a formation deed of the 'Sociedad Vinicola de La Rioja Alta'. This date is abbreviated on the Reserva 890.

Three months after the company was formed, the first 3,500 bordeaux
casks were purchased. La Rioja Alta was also decimated by phylloxera in 1892, but after a huge investment in American rootstock the winery was able to continue production. Despite the troubling start, the estate remains a bastion of quality in the region.

In 1904 Bodegas Ardanza and La Rioja Alta merged, commerorated by the Gran Reserva 904.
