Richard Garnett (1835-1906), father of Edward, Olivia and Robert, was superintendent of the British Museum Reading Room, and keeper of printed books from February 1890. "An example to Ford of fabulous erudition" (Saunders I, p. 43), he was chief editor of the library's first printed catalogue. (5)
