FICINUS, Marsilius (1433-99). Epistolae. [Nuremberg]: Anton Koberger, 24 February 1497. Chancery 4° (191 x 142mm), roman type, initial spaces with guide-letter (A3/A4 transposed, without last blank, wormholes in first three leaves affecting two words, repair and some soiling to title-page, light dampstaining generally limited to gutter, occasional light browning or spotting, one headline trimmed). 19th-century vellum-backed patterned pasteboards, red edges (a little scuffed). Provenance: occasional contemporary annotations -- Charles Butler, Warren Wood, Hatfield (bookplate) -- Thomas Edward Watson (bookplate; by descent to the present owner). Second edition. A protégé of Cosimo di Medici, Marsilio Ficino is chiefly remembered for his translation into Latin of the writings of Plato.
