I, text diagrams, numerous deckle edges (lacking Cotes's preface from vol. I called for by Babson, some light browning), contemporary calf-backed speckled paper boards, red spine label lettered in gilt, sprinkled edges (some tears in paper, slightly rubbed at extremities). Provenance: H.D. Forbes (early inscription on titles) -- Christian Heuer (bookplate). Second, corrected "Jesuits'" edition, 'valued for its copious commentary' (Babson), and containing additional important scientific pieces on tides and gravity by Bernoully, Euler, and others, which represents the sum of work on the theory of tides undertaken after the first edition of the Principia and Laplace.
