Lot Essay

A copy of the discharge paper shows Francis Holmes Coffin served on eight ships whilst in the navy. He became lieutenant on 13 July 1791; commander in 1797; captain in 1802; rear admiral of the white in 1840 and rear admiral of the red in 1841. He died in 1842.
