Mark of Sigmund Bierfreund, Nuremberg, circa 1670
The stem formed as the figure of a walking child, one arm upraised, the other holding a bouquet of flowers, standing on a rounded platform applied with scrolling calyxes, on a shaped circular lobed base repoussé and chased with flowers and foliage, the stem supporting a shaped triangular cup repoussé and chased with scrolling foliage, with applied calyx below, marked on rim and foot

Lot Essay

The maker, incorrectly listed by Rosenberg as a member of the Fearn family, is also recorded as making a beaker finely engraved with tulips exhibited Dresden, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen, Tulpomanie, Die Tulpe in der Kunst des 16 und 17 Jahrhunderts, 2004, no. 77.
