A Rare Transylvanian parcel-gilt flagon
Mark of Johannes Henssel, Hermannstadt (Romania), circa 1610
Of slightly waisted form on spreading reeded foot, the body set with a band of six Roman coins between bands of engraved strapwork and foliage and a coat-of-arms with the initials 'DBK', with scroll and grotesque mask and figure handle, the domed shaped cover with winged figural thumbpiece and with fluted ball-shaped finial, marked on base with maker's mark only, with later French control marks, the base painted with later inventory numbers 41/219
