Lot Essay

This intriguing Chinese saucer bears the AK monogram of Adrianus Kocx's mark at De Grieksche A, and is an example of the Chinese copying Dutch copies of Chinese originals. Kocx was the proprietor of the pottery from 1686 to 1701. For a Chinese teapot with a contemporary Dutch Delft replacement cover, see Errol Manners, 'Dutch Fine Line and German Schwarlot Decoration' Transactions of the Oriental Ceramic Society (2000-2001), Vol. 65, p. 141, fig. 6.
