The design of these vase and monopodiae supported tripods closely relates to an engraving drawn in Rome between 1740 and 1748 by Jacques-Francois-Joseph Saly and published as Plate III in Volume II of the Comte de Caylus' Recueil d'Antiquiti©s of 1756.

The Roman tripod from which the engraving was made was found at Hadrian's Villa. It is currently in the Louvre.
