FIRST EDITION IN ENGLISH, after the French language first edition of the previous year. Recounts the authors' trip from San Francisco to Salt Lake City in 1855, where they stayed for one month. Frenchmen, they "were fascinated by the Mormons, and much of this book is devoted to the new American religion" (Wagner-Camp-Becker). The folding map traces the authors' route. Contains some notes on the vocabulary of the native Indian tribes.
