c.1920 WOLSELEY 10.5 hp TWO SEATER WITH DICKEY
Registration No. Tba
Chassis No. Tba
Engine No. Tba
Dark blue with black wings and black leather interior
Engine: four cylinder, overhead camshaft, 1,267cc; Gearbox: three speed manual; Suspension: quarter elliptic front and rear; Brakes: two wheel drum; Right hand drive
Wolseley built Hispano-Suiza aero-engines under licence during World War One, and this experience stood them in good stead in 1919 when they introduced their 10.5, one of the first cheap small cars fitted with an over head camshaft engine: it would be the ancestor of the entire Wolseley OHC line up to its extinction in 1936. When marketed originally, the selling price for the 10.5hp was £550.
This is an example of their standard two seater with dickey, and carries all of the hallmark features of cars from its generation, from small nickel rimmed headlights and scuttle mounted sides, to running board mounted spare and lightweight hood arrangement.
In general the car is tidy and complete, and has at some stage received a largely cosmetic restoration, its paintwork is therefore in good order and the interior leather has been refurbished, though the dickey/boot at the rear is not upholstered. The dashboard, which is wooden and configured to have central instruments and side storage compartments is also in good order, but the clock is presently missing. It should also be noted that at least one of the hood bows is broken.
The Wolseley has now laid unused for a long while, but in sympathetic storage and following a recent 'freshening' presents very well.
