4 volumes, 2o (409 x 270 mm). Engraved title vignettes, 8 engraved plates, 2 double-page, 3 engraved folding plans, many full-page text engravings and woodcut portraits and arms (some leaves with spotting or browning). 18th-century red morocco gilt, sides with triple fillet along border, spines elaborately gilt (some wear to a few corners, slight crack to upper joint of vol. III, a few scratches to sides). Provenance: Etienne Baluzezius (1630-1718, historian and librarian to J.B. Colbert, signature on first and last title); abbé de Rothelin (bookplate, his sale 1746, lot 3025); Archibald Philip, Earl of Rosebery (bookplate); Adrian McLaughlin (his sale, 7 October 1980, lot 1643).
