4o (220 x 145 mm). LIMITED EDITION of 160 copies for the former members of the dissolved Bibliophiles Contemporains, exemplaire nominatif no. 30 for Ernest Chaze. Printed on Japan paper. 32 plates, a few in color; a large variety of decorative borders, one on each page. (A few tiny marginal nicks.)

SIGNED BINDING BY GEORGES CANAPE FILS AND CORRIEZ, dated 1930: charcoal grey crushed morocco, intersecting frames of gilt and blind fillets, roses inlaid with brown and green morocco in the corners, spine similarly decorated, brown morocco doublures, black watered-silk free endleaves, edges gilt 'sur témoins', uncut, three variants of original decorative wrappers bound in, (bands, joints and corners slightly rubbed). Provenance: Ernest Chaze (designated copy).

FIRST EDITION of an influential dictionary for book collectors, no longer read but more interesting than most others that have appeared since. Uzanne was founder and last president of the Bibliophiles Contemporains; his name is virtually synonymous with bibliophily of fin-de-siècle France.
