DENIS, Johann Nepomuk Michael (1729-1800). Annalium typographicorum V. Cl. Michaelis Maittaire supplementum. Vienna: Josephus Nobilis de Kurzbek, 1789.

2 volumes, 4o (292 x 211 mm). Engraved vignettes on titles showing the invention of printing. Contemporary marbled boards, morocco spine labels (labels chipped, some wear to extremities). Provenance: Hans P. Kraus (bookplate).

FIRST EDITION of Denis's supplement to Michel Maittaire's Annales typographici... (London, 1741). "This is one of the most important works in our 'Bibliography.' The labour involved in its compilation must have been immense. Much of the information, however, is now superseded by the result of recent researches; while the remainder has been since reproduced in a more readable format" (Bigmore & Wyman, I, 162). Besterman III, 5029. (2)
