Original blue muslin-backed plain boards, printed paper spine labels, uncut (a little wear to extremities, labels worn); quarter morocco folding case with cloth onlaid design showing the profile of the Hunchback. Provenance: L.P. Keim, Bristol (early signature on each front free endpaper).
FIRST AMERICAN EDITION of one of Hugo's most famous tales. Only 250 copies of the first French edition were published in 1831. The story was adapted to film on several occasions, the most famous being the 1939 version starring Charles Laughton and Maureen O'Hara. EXTRMELY RARE: according to American Book Prices Current no copy has appeared at auction in the past 25 years. (2)
