FIRST EDITION, later printing, with the battered type on the "1" on the copyright page. PRESENTATION COPY, INSCRIBED BY SINCLAIR on the front endpaper: "For Spencer Graves with best wishes Upton Sinclair June 29, 1965." The Jungle is one of a select group of novels whose impact transcended its literary merits. Sinclair's description of the brutal meat packing industry in Chicago single-handedly resulted in the 1906 enactment of the Pure Food and Drug Act.
