Lot Essay

In 1969, Beaton worked on costume designs for Frederick Brisson's musical production about the life of Coco Chanel, starring Katherine Hepburn. This won him a 'Tony' award in 1970.

This was executed after Sir Cecil's stroke in 1974, when he was learning to draw again.
