Lot Essay

These sketches show Cecil Beaton learning his trade by sketching the popular theatrical productions of the time. For example 'The King of Cadonia' was a musical play by Frederick Lonsdale, first staged in London in 1908, when Beaton was four years old, while 'Gypsy Love' was by Franz Lehar and staged in London in 1912, starring Gertie Millar.
