Lot Essay

Cecil Beaton moved to Reddish House in 1948. These sketches were done at a time when he was pining for Greta Garbo, after their love affair in America, and while he was trying to persuade her to come and visit him at Reddish. They reflect his joy in his new and final home.

Christie's are most grateful to Hugo Vickers, Cecil Beaton's Literary Executor and author of Cecil Beaton - The Authorised Biography and editor of The Unexpurgated Beaton and Beaton in the Sixties, for his help in cataloguing the above twenty-eight lots.
