Lot Essay

Probably connected to De V. 740, part of the series of nine etchings of Chasses à différents animaux published by Jombert in Paris in 1651 (De V. 732-740), where two hounds are bringing down a hind. Drawings for this set are in the Louvre (F. Viatte, Stefano della Bella, Paris, 1974, nos. 333-353) and another, close to the present sheet, was in the Tomkins album, sold in these Rooms, 18 April 1975, part of lot 9.
