Lot Essay

Whilst in the collection of the Duque de Baena, the present picture was attributed to Cornelis de Heem. We are grateful to Fred Meijer of the RKD and Professor Riccardo Lattuada for confirming the attribution to Francesco Codino. For the same hand, see the group of signed panels dated 1621 of the same dimensions sold from the collection of Lady Silvia Combe (Sotheby's, London, 27 March 1963, lot 81).
