Lot Essay

For an example of this distinctive form see Joan Jones's Minton, The First Two Hundred Years of Design and Production, (Shrewsbury, 1983, p. 89) for the design attributed to Christopher Dresser. The Chinese bottle form with integral stand was one of Dresser's designs for Minton shown at the London International Exhibition of 1862, and still in production around the time of the Paris Exhibition of 1867 and manufacture of this piece. It is highly likely that a piece of this scale and quality would have been made for exhibition.
