Comprising a pair of pear-shaped jugs and domed covers, and a matching stand formed as two adjoined cylindrical receptacles with two loop handles at the joined area, each piece painted in underglaze blue, iron-red and gilt with a composite spray of hibiscus, peony and lotus borne on a leafy branch, below a blue diaper band with iron-red and gilt floral cartouches and rosettes
overall height 6½ in. (16.5 cm.), the stand 7 7/8 in. (20 cm.) wide

Lot Essay

An oil and vinegar set of similar form and of similar date, but decorated in Holland, is in the Collection Bal, Zeeuws Museum, Middelburg, illustrated by D. F. Lunsingh Scheurleer, Chinese Export Porcelain - Chine de Commande, London, 1974, fig. 112 and p. 216. Another, of slightly later date and of hexagonal form decorated in the famille rose palette, is in the Hodroff Collection, illustrated by D. S. Howard, The Choice of the Private Trader, London, 1994, p. 130, no. 134.
