Of cinquefoil form, the cover finely carved within a conforming panel to depict a scholar and his attendants beside a pavilion by a lake set in a mountainous landscape, the grounds detailed in different patterns to denote sky, water and land, reserved on a honey-comb ground surrounded by five quatrefoil panels containing blossoming branches, alternating with groups of antique objects, the box similarly decorated with panels and objects, the interior and base lacquered black, minor restoration
