A pair of shakudo menuki with a tasseled banner, details in gold and silver inlay, signed separately Yoshioka and Inaba no suke, 18th century, 3.7cm; a pair of menuki with the strange fishermen friends, one with long arms and one with long legs, usually carrying the baskets into which they place their catches, in copper with details in gold inlay, 19th century, 7cm; a pair of menuki of men on their way to the bath-house clad in loin cloths, in patinated copper with details in gold and shakudo, 19th century, 4.3cm; a pair of menuki with lizards in shibuichi with gold details, a 'Yin-Yang' pair, one with open and one with closed mouth, signed Tomonao and dated Ansei matsu fuyu [1854-1860 in the end of winter], 19th century, 6.2cm; a thin shakudo menuki of oxen with fine detail, the eyes in gold inlay, 18th-19th century, 3.6cm; a pair of menuki of a temple gong and priest's fly whisk in copper gilt, 19th century, 5cm; a pair of shinchu menuki in the form of popular Kagura masks, one a deity biting his tongue, the other more worldly with the expression of an agriculturalist, 19th century, 2.1cm. Lot Essay

The Yoshioka family were active from the time of the middle Edo ancestor Shigetsugu through to the Meiji period with the demise of the 8th Shigetaka in 1893.

The fourth pair of menuki accompanied by a Hozon Tosogu [Sword Fitting Worth of Preserving] certificate no.403320, issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai [Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword] on 27 November 1986.
