A round shankudo migakiji tsuba with autumnal insects and flowers in gold and silver level inlay, the hitsuana of eccentric shape and rimmed with gold in accordance with the date of the tsuba

Lot Essay

Accompanied by a 46th Juyo Tosogu [Important Sword Fitting] certificate no.10933, issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai [Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword] on 5 October 2000.

This fine piece appears at first to be in Kaga style, but is a Ko-kinko tsuba pre-dating the well-known Kaga-zogan style, as can be seen from the early style of the kozuka-ana.
