Signed Bizen kuni ju Osafune Sukesada, and dated on the ura Tensho kunen [1581] hachigatsu hi
Sugata [configuration]: honzukuri, iori-mune, pronounced saki-zori and some fumbari
Kitae [forging pattern]: itame with sporadic utsuri
Hamon [tempering pattern]: wide kataochi-gunome of nioi with much ko-nie
Boshi [tip]: midare-komi
Nakago [tang]: ubu with typical Bizen style kurigata tip, one hole, and katte sagari file marks
Nagasa [length from tip to beginning of tang]: 70.1cm.

Lot Essay

Accompanied by a Tokubetsu Hozon Token [Sword Especially Worthy of Preserving] certificate no.148508, issued by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai [Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword] on 9 August 2003.

The blade was made during the Momoyama Period when the osuriage Nambokucho Period style was in fashion, hence its broad and sturdy shape.
