Lot Essay

In 1924 the House of Lords voted to commemorate the First World War by completing the Victorian decorations (commissioned by Prince Albert from Daniel Maclise) in the Royal Gallery in the House of Lords. Lord Iveagh offered the fee and chose Sir Frank Brangwyn to complete the British Empire Panels, supported by other lords.

This work is an oil study for the central panel.

We are very grateful to Libby Horner for her assistance in cataloguing this lot.
