Provenance
The Lord Barnard, T.D., Raby Castle, Christie's house sale, 11 October 1994, lot 849. The simple moulded outline relates very closely to the surviving chimneypieces designed by Carr of York when he worked at Raby in the 1770s, such as in the third storey that he added to the 14th Century Joan's Tower.
