Lot Essay

This triptych, lot 37, and prints included in lots 22 and 26 are from the collection of Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959), acquired during the years he was building the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo. After his death his widow was forced to raise funds by selling portions of his Asian collection. Between 1966 and 1975, the Pasadena Art Museum (now the Norton Simon Museum) acquired 390 of Wright's Japanese prints, all donated by by benefactors of the museum.
