Lot Essay

The Academy cinema, which closed in the early 1980s, specialised in screening avande-garde continental films. The artist Peter Strausfeld (1910-1980) designed these distinctive lino-cut posters for the Academy to use as advertising both at the cinema itself, and on the London Underground.
