Lot Essay

This work was acquired from Harry Bertoia in the 1950's by his friend and fellow artist Mathew Leibowitz, a nationally renowned graphic designer active between the years of 1940-1972. During his career Mr. Leibowitz was a director and consultant for such firms as RCA Victor, General Electric and perhaps most notably IBM for which he used the silhouette of this sculpture by Bertoia as a graphic element in a published advertisement.
