A 1981 Fender Lead I, Serial No.E102394, in blue burst finish, double cutaway body, 21 fret fingerboard with dot inlays, humbucker pickup, two rotary controls, two selector switches, top-mounted jack input and black pickguard, signed on the body in gold felt pen Eric Clapton; and black rectangular hardshell case with brown plush lining and Lee Dickson's tape label on lid inscribed in his hand EC FL1; and a photocopy of a typescript letter on WEA Records Limited headed stationery, 2nd October 1989, confirming that this guitar ...was signed by Eric Clapton... and was given to the vendor at a WEA Sales Conference (3)

Lot Essay

According to Lee Dickson, Eric Clapton's guitar technician since 1979, Eric played this guitar for a brief period on stage. The labelling on the case indicates that it went on tour in the early 1980s although to date we have been unable to find any photographs of Clapton playing it on stage.

The vendor worked for WEA Records and received this guitar in 1989 at the company's sales conference, as a reward for his high sales record.
