Lot Essay

Keohane's souvenir of Captain Oates, the most popular of the officers with the other ranks ('Oates was more popular with the seamen than any other officer. He understood these men perfectly', Teddy Evans in The Strand Magazine, 1913) and of whom Keohane commented 'not much talk, but chock full of grit'.
