Lot Essay

These heavy solid mahogany chairs are comparable to a set of chairs attributed to the Brussels chairmaker P.F. van Doren. The rectangular pierced backs with tablet toprail are similar in proportion as well as the exaggerated angle formed by the transition from backleg to the back, see Paul Rem, Hofmeubilair, Negentiende-eeuwse meubelen uit de collectie van Paleis Het Loo, Zwolle 2003, cat.nr. 18
