Lot Essay

John Berney Ladbrooke was the son of the artist Robert Ladbrooke (1769-1842), a leading member of the Norwich School of artists in the early nineteenth century, associated with the Norwich Society founded by John Crome (1768-1821) in 1803. Berney Ladbrooke was both a pupil of John Crome and John Thirtle (1777-1839).
