Censers or perfumers of this type carved with flowers and foliate decoration and usually with flower sprig handles, either with both the bowl and cover pierced, or like the present example, just the cover, were popular during the Qianlong period. Two white jade examples that are still in the Qing Court collection are illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - 42 - Jadeware (III), Hong Kong, 1995, pp. 53 and 54, nos. 42 and 43.
