Inscribed with two inscriptions: one comprised of twenty poems about Taihu rocks, the second signed by Liu Dan of Jin Ling, with two seals of the artist: Liu Dan Zhi Yin, Liu Dan Yin together with the subject of the painting, an ivory-colored Taihu limestone scholar's rock of irregular outline pierced with numerous perforations and channels creating a sense of great depth, shown in its Xu Mi stone stand

Another similarly large taihu rock, with a white marble square stand of Ming date, which like the present stone stand has been adapted to hold the rock, was sold in these rooms, 20 September 2002, lot 99.
