A RARE LARGE IMPERIAL CARVED RED LACQUER SCREEN
QIANLONG PERIOD (1736-1795)
One side finely carved in high relief with a central five-clawed dragon shown full face, its writhing body protecting a flaming pearl from the six surrounding dragons that are also shown writhing amidst the ground of dense of wind-tossed waves, with a rock rising from the waves at the base, the reverse inlaid in white jade with a Qianlong Imperial poem, all within an outer frame carved on the front with lotus spray cartouches reserved on a diaper ground, carved on the sides with key fret and on the back with wan diaper, raised on a trestle support decorated on one side with a narrow panel carved with two dragons contesting a flaming pearl above dense foliate scroll on the apron, the same scroll repeated on the reverse of the upper panel and apron, the ends of the supports with angular scroll flanges
